Mitch-Seasonal Effects Hub For Xenforo
Mitch Seasonal FX + Live Weather Overlay
Turn your XenForo into a living, breathing world.
Why have a static forum when you can have:
Snowstorms in December
Bats and spooky skies in October
Pride rainbows in June
A live night sky with stars, a glowing moon, and little satellites cruising overhead
🌦 And all of it driven by real, live weather right where your user is
This add-on doesn’t replace your theme — it haunts it, decorates it, and vibes with it.
All effects sit on top with pointer-events: none, so your users can still click everything like normal.
🌦 Live Weather + Mini Forecast HUD
Hook in your OpenWeather API key and the add-on will:
Detect your user’s real local weather via geolocation
Classify conditions as Clear, Clouds, Rain, Snow, or Fog (with smart mist/haze logic)
Show a slick bottom pill HUD, e.g.:
72° · Fairfield · Clouds
Add a mini forecast bar at the top with the next few hours:
Time (e.g. 3PM / 6PM / 9PM)
Temperature
Condition
Two visual modes:
CSS-only mode
Rain streaks, drifting snowflakes, soft fog, subtle sunbeam
Very lightweight, minimal and elegant
Image overlay mode
Custom rain icons, snowflakes, fog puffs, clouds, and sun sprites
All configurable via style images so you can match your forum’s personality
Intensity (low / medium / high) controls how many particles and how busy the sky feels.
Day /
Night… with Satellites
Your sky can follow:
Force Day
Force Night
Auto (user’s local time)
Auto (sunrise/sunset from the weather API)
Daytime:
Soft daylight tint over your forum
A warm, pulsing sun icon in the corner
Optional sunbeam effect on clear skies
Nighttime:
Adjustable darkening overlay (Night Brightness slider)
A glowing moon graphic
A field of twinkling stars with configurable Star Density
And now the fun part: orbiting satellites ![]()
Up to 3 satellite sprites (sat-1, sat-2, sat-3)
Each with slightly different paths, delays, and speeds
They lazily cruise around the screen like tiny space ghosts
Holiday & Seasonal Packs
When you flip on a holiday, the weather overlay politely steps aside and the holiday magic takes over.
Each holiday uses themed image sprites + overlays + optional text greetings:
Winter (3 modes)
Light cozy snow
Heavier drifting snow
Magical sparkle winter with a frosty glow
Valentine’s Day – Rising hearts everywhere ![]()
Thanksgiving – Falling leaves, warm autumn vibe ![]()
Halloween – Flying bats, spooky orange glow ![]()
New Year – Fireworks bursts + “Happy New Year!” ![]()
Easter – Floating eggs/icons + pastel glow ![]()
St. Patrick’s Day – Shamrocks / hats / coins + “Happy St Patrick’s Day!” ![]()
4th of July – Patriotic icons, red/white/blue glow, “Happy 4th of July!” ![]()
Day of the Dead – Calaveras, marigolds, rich purple/orange ambience ![]()
![]()
Veterans Day – Respectful patriotic icons + “Honoring Our Veterans” ![]()
Lunar New Year – Lanterns, envelopes, gold icons + “Happy Lunar New Year!” ![]()

All holiday packs respect the global intensity setting, so you can go from whisper-subtle to full-on festival.
Custom Holiday Slot (Brand It Your Way)
Want a “Community Anniversary”, “SpookyCon 2025”, or “Solano Paranormal Night”?
Use Custom Holiday 1:
3 custom image URLs from the ACP
Custom holiday name (shown as floating text)
Extra CSS field injected right into the template for that holiday only
Basically: “Here, have your own mini seasonal effect pack.”
🛠 Admin Controls
From the ACP, you can:
Pick the active holiday (or “none” for pure weather mode)
Set Global Intensity: low / medium / high
Toggle the Weather Overlay and set the OpenWeather API key
Choose Weather style: CSS-only or image-based overlay
Configure Day/Night:
Mode (force / auto / weather-based)
Night brightness
Star density (also influences satellite count)
Theme-Friendly
Fixed-position overlays only – your layout stays untouched
pointer-events: none – effects never block clicks, taps, or hovers
Mobile-friendly, smooth, and easy to override in extra.less
Plug in your own PNGs to fully theme it to your brand
